Tasting Notes

Each Vintage, select parcels of Chardonnay are set aside by Penfolds’ winemaker for special handling. These wines form the collection of Penfolds Reserve Bin white wine release, headed by this, the Reserve Bin Chardonnay, which is only released in exceptional years (previously 1994, 1995, and 1998). The wine offers a classic rich, ripe peach and honeydew melon nose, with a backdrop of cream oak. It has impressive palate weight with citurs and mineral notes and a long, savoury finish. – by Offical Website

Bin 00A. Brilliant, bright light to medium green-yellow; the bouquet has complex barrel ferment and malolactic ferment inputs on intense citrus fruit; it is that combination of malolactic and barrel ferment fruit which drives the long palate, anchored in nectarine and citrus, then a lingering finish and aftertaste. Seventy five per cent from Tumbarumba and 25 per cent from the Adelaide Hills. I lost no time in acquiring half a case of the wine, which is only an eyelash behind Yattarna.  – by James Halliday

A persistent and delightfully balanced and supple wine with generous flavours, poise and elegance. Its smoky, mealy aromas of dusty citrus and peaches, melon and bananas are backed by buttery/vanilla oak and some funky, nutty sulphide influences. Restrained and creamy, it offers a fine length of juicy and brightly lit fruit culminating in a lingering chalky finish. – by Jeremy Oliver
