Tasting Notes

The 2008 Barbera d’Alba Piani is uncharacteristically a little bit rough around the edges. Sweet red cherries, herbs, crushed flowers and licorice all make an appearance in the glass, but the wine shows only modest concentration and depth. Ideally the 2008 Piani is best enjoyed on the young side. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.

Pelissero is one of my favorite producers in Barbaresco. Year in, year out proprietor Giorgio Pelissero does a fabulous job with all of his wines, from top to bottom.

A blackberry- and cassis-laced red, featuring savory mineral elements that keep this rooted and frank. Balanced, with light tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2014. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
