Tasting Notes
Colour : Deep red.
Nose : An overt smoky, barrel ferment character sits separate to, yet comfortably alongside, pencil shaving oak aromas. Cedar, cinnamon and wet
charcoal nuances blend with the savoury, white chocolate and floral notes characteristic of the Magill Estate.
Palate : A palate of impeccable balance, integrated oak and an array of fruits: liqueur cherry; kirsch; malt; and Satsuma plum. A complex, layered wine with
no aggression or rough edges.

The 2002 Shiraz Magill Estate (a single vineyard cuvee whose debut
vintage was 1983) spent 15 months in primarily new French oak and some
larger American hogsheads. It possesses sweet aromas of vanillin, white
chocolate, cassis, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, expansive, pure,
and nicely textured, this complex beauty is somewhat European in its
restraint and elegance. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.

Rather a simple and apologetic expression of this wine, whose unusually
briary and meaty aromas of red and black fruits reveal undertones of
dried herbs, licorice and suggestions of iodide. Full to medium in
weight, it?ˉs initially smooth and vibrant, with lively, almost
jujube-like red and black berry flavours, but then thins out towards a
lacklustre finish framed by sappy acids.
