Tasting Notes

The 2006 Valderiz spent 20 months in 60% new, mostly French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an alluring nose of wood smoke, pencil lead, espresso, leather, black cherry and blackberry. Complex, dense, and layered on the palate, it reveals plenty of structure mandating 6-8 years of cellaring. The wine has all the right stuff and is in balance, so patience is likely to be rewarded. Drink it from 2017 to 2031.
