Tasting Notes
The 2009 Chianti Monrosso shows more weight and darkness than the Chianti Classico. Layers of sweet spices, leather and tobacco add complexity to wild cherries and plums in this extroverted, generous Chianti. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
I have been drinking the wines of Castello di Monsanto since about as long as I can remember, which is at least 20 years. This set of new releases is quite frankly perplexing. In particular the flagships Nemo and Il Poggio are disappointing in 2007. Hopefully Monsanto will get back on track quickly.

Right since 1962, the property of Castello di Monsanto is about 25 hectares of vineyards, adjacent to the rest of the lands, which are found within the area of the Chianti Colli Senesi production. Here is where the youngest and freshest wine of the company is produced : the Monrosso. Vinified in steel with 12/15 days of maceration, it ages in Slavonia oak barrels for 12 months before sale.
